Believe it or not, Memorial Day weekend and summer are just over a month away. Backyard parties will be back in full force, the kids will all be home, and everyone will be looking for trendy and creative ways to have fun. You can never go wrong with backyard fun, so we went to Pinterest in search of the coolest backyard DIY projects. The following are some of our favorite projects to make your backyard the hotspot this summer.
Let’s start off with the easiest entry on this list: Outdoor Twister! A summer spin on the classic board game, Outdoor Twister is as easy to set up as it is to play. All you need is the 4 different colors of spray paint and a patch of grass to recreate the iconic game mat. For the spinner, you can either use an existing one from the actual game or create your own. This is a fun and easy way to get the whole family outside and moving, and just like the classic game, it can lead to a plenty of laughs and memories.
DIY Mini Golf
Everyone loves mini golf. It removes the intense patience and quiet required for real golf and replaces it with crazy obstacles. Most people shell out cash to play on specially developed courses, but with a bit of creativity you can build your own holes right in your backyard. All you need is some plywood to create the length of the hole (raised a couple inches off the ground so you can cut the hole into it). From there, you just add whatever crazy obstacles you want and enjoy!
Backyard Bowling Alley
Bowling alleys are dark, sometimes dingy, and you have to spend your money renting special shoes that other people have worn. Unless, that is, the bowling alley is in your backyard. This project is pretty big, but the payoff can be pretty big as well. When built right, the backyard bowling alley can add a really cool aesthetic and be a great time simultaneously. If you really want to kick it up a notch, you can even set up a creative light fixture for some backyard night-time galactic bowling. Never wear rental shoes again.
Backyard Movie Theatre
This one leaves a lot of room for interpretation. A backyard movie theatre can be as simple as a projector on the fence and some blankets, or a full blown deck with chairs and a specially built screen. The fun part is that it is entirely up to you. What matters is that you’ll be able to enjoy the summer evening weather and enjoy a film and some popcorn with those closest to you without leaving home. What could be better?
